Description

This Foolproof Sandwich Bread is easy to make, filled with irresistible flavor, and perfect for sandwiches. Enjoy a slice of homemade goodness for your meals!


Ingredients

  • ¼ cup butter
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (not instant-rise yeast)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 tablespoons vital wheat gluten


Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a small saucepan, then add milk and sugar. Heat to 110°F and remove from heat.
  2. Sprinkle yeast over the milk mixture and stir lightly, letting it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  3. In a stand mixer, combine flour, vital wheat gluten, and salt. Add the foamy yeast mixture and mix on medium speed for 3 minutes.
  4. Cover the dough and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  5. Fold the dough over itself 2-3 times with a spatula. Place it in a buttered loaf pan and smooth the top.
  6. Cover the loaf pan and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour until it has doubled in size.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F and bake for 30-35 minutes until golden and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  8. As soon as it comes out of the oven, brush the top with melted butter.
  9. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a rack and cool for at least 20 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Use an instant read thermometer for accurate milk temperature.
For best results, proof the bread in a warm oven.
Wait for the bread to cool before slicing for the best texture.
