With simple ingredients like butter, cream cheese, and vanilla, they make for a quick and satisfying dessert. Ideal for gatherings or a cozy night in, these bars are a must-try for any baking enthusiast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 8 oz cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 10 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 2 oz cream cheese, room temperature
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1-3 drops food coloring (optional)
  • sprinkles for decorating

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and butter a 9×13-inch baking pan, then line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour and salt, and set it aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and cream cheese until smooth and creamy.
  4. Add the granulated sugar and continue to beat until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  5. Incorporate the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well and scraping down the bowl as necessary.
  6. Gradually add the flour mixture, mixing just until incorporated.
  7. Spread the dough evenly in the prepared pan.
  8. Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until the edges are set and the center feels firm but not wet. Ensure not to overbake.
  9. Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before frosting.

Notes

Feel free to add food coloring to the frosting for a fun twist.
Sprinkles can make a great decorative touch for special occasions.
Make sure to cool the bars completely before applying frosting to avoid melting.
